Amazon has secured two new delivery stations: one in Exeter and one in Horley near Gatwick Airport.
The internet giant has take 41,524 sq ft at Hillwoood and Goya Devlopment’s 170,000 sq ft North Gatwick Gateway scheme in Horley, Surrey, three miles north of the airport.
The speculative mid-box warehouse development consists of five units with two units totalling 53% of the scheme now let within three months of practical completion. Joint letting agents are SHW, DTRE and FTDJohnsons.
While there has been no official announcement the company is now currently recruiting staff for its 90,000 sq ft Exeter delivery depot on Stoford’s Exeter Logistics Park at Clyst Honiton, which has been funded by Torbay Council.
Currently there has been no official announcement and the developer is describing the new tenant as an ‘international retailer’. It is thought up to 350 jobs could be created at the Exeter depot alone.
Amazon said that it was creating 10,000 new jobs across the UK in 2020, taking the company’s total permanent UK workforce to more than 40,000 at the beginning of this month.
Amazon has already added 3,000 new permanent roles to its workforce across its UK network of fulfilment centres, sort centres and delivery stations – including at a new hi-tech fulfilment centre in the North East of England which opened in May. The company will add a further 7,000 new permanent roles by the end of 2020 across more than 50 sites, including corporate offices and two new fulfilment centres launching in the autumn in the North East and in the Midlands.
The new roles, including engineers, graduates, HR and IT professionals, health and safety and finance specialists, as well as the teams who will pick, pack and ship customer orders, will help Amazon meet growing customer demand and enable small and medium sized enterprises selling on Amazon to scale their businesses.
Exeter Logistics Park is part of the second phase of a 55-acre industrial scheme at Hayes Farm, owned by the Church Commissioners for England.
Exeter Logistics Park benefits from major improvements to nearby Junction 29 of the M5 motorway and the construction of the Clyst Honiton bypass, providing access to Exeter International Airport and opening a corridor linking the Science Park, Skypark and Cranbrook as a prime opportunity for economic growth.
