Some 33 European trade associations which represent transport, logistics service providers, shippers, and equipment suppliers have called for the recognition of the industry’s importance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The European associations – including the UK’s Freight Transport Association – have called on European Union member states for smooth border crossings for freight transport, both for European providers, and international logistics suppliers.
They also call for the recognition of the importance of protecting the health and safety of transport workers, notably through personal protective equipment, as well as access to clean and disinfected sanitary facilities, food and drinks.
In a joint statement the associations also urged that policy makers assist the affected transport sector in its recovery, to ensure future connectivity for both passengers and freight, and to revitalise the internal market as soon as the crisis is over.
